Imagine Cup is an annual competition sponsored by Microsoft that challenges students to imagine a world enabled by their own creativity and energy and provides opportunities to participate in the future of technology, software and computing. The student teams were asked to create, using Microsoft technology and .NET Web services, a software application based on the competition theme of Imagine Cup 2008: "Imagine a world where technology enables a sustainable environment." Team Phoenix will now have a chance to win the $US15,000 cash prize for first place in the worldwide Software Design competition. "The team we have chosen to compete for New Zealand at this year's Imagine Cup represents the next generation of technology and business leaders," said Kevin Ackhurst, Microsoft New Zealand Managing Director. "The creativity and innovation of Team Phoenix is inspiring not only to those who might be interested in the future of technology, but to anyone interested in having a positive impact on their community and the world." Chief judge Mark Thomas, founder and managing director of Right Hemisphere, said the standard of teams in the final was phenomenal. "It's safe to say the future of innovation and entrepreneurship in New Zealand is in good hands." Team Phoenix's winning project, Taxibus, addresses the 2008 Imagine Cup theme through an innovative software-driven transport system which is a cross between buses and private cars. No one likes being stuck in traffic or the price of petrol going up, said team leader Louis Sayers. "We decided to do something about it." View all Announcements / Contract Listings 8/5/16_ex_h |
