Kordia selects Juniper Networks for network upgrade

Telecommunications provider boosts network capacity to 10Gbps as data traffic and customer demand increases...

February 1, 2010 – Juniper Networks has completed a project with Kordia to upgrade the government-owned broadcast and telecommunication solutions provider’s network capacity from 1Gbps to10Gbps.

The upgrade comes as a result of increased demand for higher capacity services from existing customers, as well new customer growth.

Kordia has deployed Juniper Network’s MX480 Ethernet Services routers to support the variety of processing and scaling demands placed on the network as a result of increased Ethernet traffic. The MX routers will carry voice and data traffic and ensure Kordia can meet demands for capacity, as well as transporting video traffic across Kordia’s network to deliver television and radio programming into homes and also provide other broadcast services throughout the country.

“The scalability of the MX platform and the reliability of [Juniper’s] Junos operating system provide us with a design that has the highest level of redundancy and resiliency to ensure that our critical services and customers stay connected,” said Steve Roberts, Kordia’s Business Manager for National Network Services.

“The solution enables us to satisfy critical applications at the edge, including voice, video and data.”

Kordia owns and operates communication networks that meet the often specialised needs of its customers. The company has recently experienced substantial customer growth in all areas of its business – particularly VoIP and data traffic – which prompted a requirement to upgrade.
