Enabling has won a tender to supply major South Island rural co-operative Combined Rural Traders with a new ERP system based on Microsoft Dynamics AX.

The rural services and products buying group is the largest of its kind in New Zealand, with 23,000 farmer shareholders and 30 FarmCentre stores throughout the South Island. It also has divisions for seed, fuel, real estate and horticulture, and a 2,300-company strong supplier network that uses the co-op’s own CRT card.

With turnover now in excess of NZ$500,000 and growth of 60 percent over the last four years, CRT’s systems were struggling and also constraining business growth.

Our existing systems couldn’t give us a consistent view what was happening in a timely manner, says Chief Information Officer Roger Rennie. The disparate nature of CRT’s business was an especial challenge.

“We needed a platform that would allow for easy growth and would meet our needs from a business processing perspective.”

A major reason for choosing Microsoft Dynamics was because it was more people-centric than other offerings.

“Microsoft’s potential integration with other tools like Microsoft Office was seen as an advantage,” says Rennie. “Microsoft also has a good vision with AX which we all like.”

Enabling CEO Gary Taiaroa says the company is pleased to be working with the well-known farming co-operative.

“It’s a progressive co-operative that really understands the value that IT can bring to its shareholders.”

Based in Dunedin, but with offices in Melbourne and Sydney, Enabling is an Australasian company servicing medium- to large-sized businesses throughout Australia, New Zealand and the southwest Pacific. It has seven branches and over 1200 customers.
