Maui maker moves to Microsoft

CI Munro, New Zealand’s largest manufacturer of caravans and motor homes and a subsidiary of Tourism Holdings Limited, has chosen Microsoft’s business application Axapta to improve its financials, inventory control and supply chain management...

Terry Mann, general manager of CI Munro, which supplies motor homes to Maui Rentals, Britz Motor Homes, Pacific Horizon and United Rentals, says Microsoft Axapta will be installed in the company’s Otorohanga factory in February 2005. Axapta replaces legacy financial, manufacturing and stock control solutions in a bid to provide staff with more control and better insight to core business processes.

Whilst the motivator for the decision was to support long term plans for expansion in New Zealand and Australia, Terry cites ease of use, flexibility and seamless integration with existing software applications as the main reasons the company chose Microsoft Axapta.

“Maintaining an efficient and well supplied production line is crucial to our business,” says Terry Mann. “Microsoft Axapta will allow us to better manage our inventory control, meet increased production demands and reduce operating costs. With Axapta, we can be confident we will have more control over our stock levels, enabling us to meet our production schedules.

“Axapta will also allow us to better capture and measure the cost of our factory operations. This information will help the team set the standards to improve future production and improve our service to customers.”

CI Munro was established in 1948, and became part of the Tourism Holding Group in 1995. CI Munro operates the largest share of the market in New Zealand for motor home production. The King Country-based company employs just over 100 employees in its Otorohanga factory, being the town’s third largest employer. With its specialist fibreglass factory producing all the company’s needs, and a research and development team poised to develop product for the market, C I Munro is set for a strong and progressive future.

Terry adds that Microsoft Axapta is also an important element in the company’s strategy to introduce best practise procedures and gain business efficiencies across all areas of the business. “A key strength of the product is having information you can rely on at your fingertips. Our purchasing and ordering has historically not been as efficient as we would have liked due to out-of-date information. With Axapta tracking our inventory we anticipate a significant reduction in wastage and manufacturing costs and a more efficient manufacturing process.

Koorb Consulting was chosen by CI Munro as the preferred Microsoft partner for the project. Nick Houlbrooke, Koorb's  managing director, says that CI Munro is a very good example of the type of business Microsoft Axapta is well suited for - a supply-driven manufacturing business.
