Excell Corporation is New Zealand's largest supplier of infrastructure maintenance solutions. Formed out of Manukau City Council’s Works business unit in 1995, Excell grew through a series of acquisitions of business units (Local Authority Trading Enterprises – LATEs) from South Waikato District Council (South Civil Ltd), Tauranga District Council (Aspen Contractors), Hutt City Council (Grounds Maintenance Services and Maintec) as well as the acquisition of McFall Enterprises (roading) in the Waikato District. With a staff count of close to 800, Excell operates out of major depots at Auckland, Christchurch, Tauranga, Te Awamutu, Tirau and Wellington. Today, Excell provides New Zealand’s most comprehensive range of facilities, infrastructure maintenance and management services covering open space management, environmental, water, drainage and roading services. Why PayGlobal? Key elements required of a payroll system to support Excell’s growth were the ability to interface with the mission-critical WorkBench job costing system, and responsiveness to legislative change. PayGlobal was selected as the system of choice at an executive level and Koorb Consulting Ltd nominated as implementation partner by IT system consultant, Kevin Miller. Why Koorb? “Since then, the decision to choose Koorb has been confirmed as the right one, time and time again. From the quality of the scoping to the experience of their consultants and the value they’ve added to the implementation – our expectations have been consistently met or exceeded. They’ve worked really hard to address and resolve any issues with the system,” he says. “Payroll is now a painless exercise for Excell. The need to support PayGlobal is absolutely minimal, so the IT team loves it.” For Wendy Gage, payroll manager, PayGlobal was a big attraction when considering joining Excell in mid 2006, and she’d also been through an earlier implementation with Koorb at Mainzeal. “Excell has weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay cycles, as well as initially having 15 pay collectives (each with different rules and regulations). With the legacy system these were administered and entered manually, a laborious and time intensive process.” PayGlobal was easily configured to automate these formerly complex configurations using the underlying rules based system. “We now have single point of data entry. There’s been a considerable time and cost saving now we no longer need to duplicate entries. The process from beginning to end has been made easy, and there are no mismatches between logged time and the job costing system,” says Gage. “Our payroll team has found PayGlobal easy and intuitive to grasp, and the seamless interface with the other systems we use has been a highlight. The ongoing training has also been great. Koorb’s added real value as our relationship has developed and their knowledge of our business has increased – they’ve been able to contribute new ideas for improvement of our processes. We’ve felt that their interests have always been along side ours.” Summary For more information 8/2/13_ex_h |
