Jet Reports goes one better with V2009

Jet Reports, the Excel-based report writing tool designed for business people, has been rewritten in Microsoft .NET Version 2009 and launched on September 21...

As well as performance improvements, the new version introduces new capabilities such as an automated report builder and an improved scheduler.

“The user challenge for report writing tools has been bringing in information from different parts of a system. A wizard in V2009 allows you to easily pick what you need,” says Tim Turner, a director of Jet Reports Australia and New Zealand Ltd.

“Jet Reports is designed for business rather than technical people. It plugs into your database or financial system and uses Excel-type formulas to design reports and dashboards.”

Five years ago, Turner was the chief financial officer for a processing company and needed software to get information from a new financial system. He chose Jet Reports and was so impressed that two years later he started up the local agency.

“It’s aimed at mid-sized organisations, ranging from one seat to 100 seats,” he says.

“It’s very quick to deploy. You can do it in half a day. Because it is Excel-centric, those who are familiar with Excel can get instant reports.

“Jet Reports helps you get the information you need in a particular format which facilitates effective decision-making. For example, you might want to compare overdue debtors with the last time they made a payment and whether you were still producing orders for them.”

US-based Jet Reports International was previously a Microsoft Dynamics solutions centre. It found many customers were seeking better ways to get reports.

“It was five years in the making,” Turner says. “They decided to commercialise in 1998 and released their first product in 2002. There are specific connectors to Dynamics Nav and to most databases.

Jet Reports is distributed in 40 countries. There are 4500 sites worldwide, with 45,000 users.
