Vodafone technology to deliver Vector's advanced metering services

Vodafone is delivering the technology which will enable Vector’s advanced metering services to be rolled out to some 500,000 households and businesses for Genesis Energy...

The ‘smart metering’ technology uses a mobile SIM which is inserted into a modem and connected to the electricity meter of individual houses and buildings.

Utilising the Vodafone network, regular readings can be taken and data sent back to the advanced metering platform, which will be used to determine accurate electricity consumption.

Vodafone NZ’s CEO, Russell Stanners, says the project will showcase how advanced mobile technology is, being so much more than voice calls and txt messages.

“As experts in mobile technology and networks we are applying our knowledge to deliver cost effective and innovative solutions to monitor and manage remote devices in complementary industries,” he says.

“We are delighted to be part of this significant project, and look forward to working with Vector and Genesis as we roll this solution out across New Zealand.”

The success of smart metering is being closely watched by Vodafone NZ’s international peers, particularly in Australia, who are keen to implement similar solutions.
