Navision gets the nod at Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) selected Microsoft Business Solutions' Navision to replace Oracle Financials for a project reaching 44 overseas diplomatic posts across 41 countries. Phil Goulin, MFAT director of finance explains why...

Phil Goulin, MFAT director of finance, says Microsoft Navision was chosen for its ease of use, product functionality, and ability to deliver a single application over multiple sites and overall better fit for purpose.

"Our existing system was a challenge for some staff in overseas posts to operate. Teams at these posts are predominantly employed in the host country and have a variable range of skills and competencies. We needed a system that catered for a range of skills, was simple to use and could be supported from Wellington," says Goulin.

Goulin says cost of ownership was an important consideration. "We are confident that Navision will provide a relatively cost effective solution to the Ministry's global financial management information system requirements."

"We wanted a solution where it was easy to get data in and easy to get information out i.e. provide employees and management ready access to relevant financial management information and one that would improve operational reporting," he says.

"We've chosen a low risk solution that fits with our business requirements. We're confident it will be a simpler, more intuitive system for our teams to use," says Goulin.

John Lockhart, business development manager at Topaz Solutions, says Microsoft Navision offers MFAT a stable and mature product with a clear development path.

"This is a sound move for the Ministry from an economic and end-user perspective. In terms of scale and logistics it's one of the largest Navision implementations to date in New Zealand and presents an exciting challenge for our team."

David Guy, Microsoft Business Solutions partner group manager says the deal is an excellent example of the depth Microsoft Business Solutions partners bring to customer relationships and implementations. "Navision gives our partners the ability to provide smart solutions for their customers. The combination of partner expertise and a sound technology platform continues to grow the adoption of Microsoft Business Solutions' ERP applications across a wide range of industries."
